Libraries in Bhopal

Bhopal apart from being a historical city is emerging as an education hub in the country. Libraries spread across Bhopal is a glaring example to testify the same. The city has some of the oldest and finest libraries in the country.These libraries in Bhopal contains vast collection of books, manuscripts and literary transcripts on various subjects. 

All these libraries are the knowledge center in the city and are well maintained by the their respective management. Bhopal Central Library is one of the most finest and oldest library in the city. This library was founded by then Begum Sultan Jahan in year 1908. For knowledge seekers libraries are like treasure island where they can find variety of books, journals, documentaries and manuscripts to satisfy their hunger for knowledge.

Bhopal recently got its first ever digital library, popularly known as e- library. this library is launched with the help of British council in association with S.V. library which includes a huge collection of 70,000 e- books and 15,000 magazines. These libraries in Bhopal cater to the readers of all age group and plays a major role in imparting knowledge.

Bhopal Central Library founded by Begum Sultan Jahan in year 1908 is one of the most finest and oldest library in the city. This library was built with the objective to preserve the gifts given by other rulers to Nawab of Bhopal. The library possess around 60,000 books and manuscripts in various languages. But due to the lack of maintenance it was closed by the Nawab but was opened again in year 1955. The Library has been declared protected monument by the Government of Madhya Pradesh under the Act of Archaeological Sites and Remains, 1964.
